Plz help a noob out January 25, 2022, 10:09:15 pm Heya - I'm launching a media company and am at the final stages of web development. I outsourced the project to a web developer on Fiverr but my knowledge of launching a website is pretty pedestrian. Was hoping one of you guys would be kind enough to walk me through a few things. My website is based on a WordPress template. I have my domains registered with namecheap and hosting with another company, I tried transferring the domains to the hosting company but I'm not sure they are supported. If they cant, I'm assuming I need to contact namecheap and organise authority for those domains (manage DNS?) to be used with the hosting company? Also:- The web developer wants access to the hosting to transfer the website over. I dont know them, is providing them with CPanel logins safe?- I have several domains, one main one and others that I want to point to the main one. Not sure how I go about this. - Would like to create a Launchrock holding page until the website is ready to launch, does anyone have any experience dealing with them? - Is there a sequence of things I should do to launch the website? Sorry for the dipshit questions which are probably far below your paygrade, if you can even point me to some good resources so I can figure shit out that would be much appreciated. Cheers!

You can just point the domains from namecheap at your new hosting provider. You need to change the A record of the domain and point it at the IP address of the new host. https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/319/2237/how-can-i-set-up-an-a-address-record-for-my-domain & https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/536/51/how-do-i-set-my-domain-to-use-namecheaps-freedns-serviceAlternatively you could use Cloudflare as both a free DNS service and DDOS protection / CDN. Cloudflare is free.I wouldn't have found someone on Fiverr. Wordpress sites are super easy and you could have done this all yourself with a half decent wordpress theme. I hope you didn't pay much.If you provide him access to your hosting account, I suggest changing all passwords as soon as the transfer is done. Wordpress, Cpanel, etc. Change them the moment he is done. I will read the namecheap knowledge base articles now and see how I go. In hindsight I should've done it myself. The theme I chose did most of the heavy lifting and the developer has been somewhat cunty to deal with. What should've taken a couple of weeks has now dragged on for almost a year! I was getting pretty disenchanted with the whole thing but pressed on as had already had a few false starts with other developers. I paid $1500, rookie error : /I will certainly change all the passwords as soon as he is done transferring the website. Just looking at the coming soon templates now, looks like there's some cool stuff there. I chose namecheap as they seemed to get a good rap at least as far as purchasing domain names, the hosting is offshore because I'd prefer not to be under the watch of the (((five eyes))). I definitely need to do more research, really appreciate you taking the time to point those things out.
